Braniff Airways had placed options for three Concorde aircraft with Aerospatiale in 1966, but then cancelled these in 1973. Six years later, however, in January of 1979, the airline as part of an ambitious expansion program, partnered with both Air France and British Airways to offer supersonic service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Europe. Both European Airlines partnered with Braniff for the purpose of promoting Concorde in the United States and around the globe. Although load factors on the domestic leg of the service between Washington D.C: and Dallas were often low, operating the supersonic aircraft proved to be a great marketing and brand awareness boost for Braniff. The airline produced several promotional materials with Concorde sporting a full Braniff livery, but partially also due to the end of the agreement in mid of 1980, it was never actually applied to any aircraft, only being utilized on models, billboards and postcards.
