The large success of the A330 family was one of the reasons that resulted in Boeing’s development of the 787. While the completely new A350 family was created, it was also decided to modernize the current A330 as well. Next to the A330-900neo which is the direct successor of the A330-300, Airbus also offers, albeit with so far less success, a short-fuselage but more capable -800 series variant with a range of up to 15.000 kilometers as the direct successor of the A330-200.
