Yakovlev Yak-40

From 1973, the Polish Air Force received the first of no less than 19 of these small Soviet-produced trijets. They were used primarily as VIP and government transports and usually had a "salon" interior with only 13 instead of the 32 seats common when in use as a commercial airliner. In the 1990s, the fleet operated by the 36th Special Air Transport Regiment based at Warsaw-Okecie received the red-and-white design which became standard for aircraft in governmental use. The Yak-40 with the serial 044 was withdrawn from service in 2011 after over three decades in service, and is on display at the Muzeum Polskiej Techniki Wojskowej, the Museum of Polish Military Technology, in Warsaw. ,From 1973, the Polish Air Force received the first of no less than 19 of these small Soviet-produced trijets.
