The Ilyushin IL-62 was the first four-engine long-range passenger aircraft developed and built in the Soviet Union. It enabled Aeroflot to fly non-stop from Moscow to destinations in Africa, Asia, and even North America without requiring a refueling stop – a major advance over older, less capable aircraft such as the Tupolev Tu-114. From the 1960s through to the 1990s, the IL-62 was the main aircraft type used by Aeroflot for long-haul flights and was also used by other socialist airlines (including Interflug, CSA, and LOT). However, of the 295 Ilyushin IL-62s built in total, no fewer than 213 flew for Aeroflot. Overall, it remained in service for over 40 years – a testament to its robustness and reliability. Aeroflot's last IL-62M was not decommissioned until 2005. As all IL-62 models in 1/200, this release includes the removable support wheel which was necessary to stabilize the tail-heavy IL-62 during loading and unloading on the ground. A display stand is included.
