With the entry into service of the first A321neo in September 2024, the Dutch airline began modernizing its medium-haul fleet. The order for up to 60 A320neo and A321neo aircraft will be split between KLM and its subsidiaries Transavia and Transavia France. All Boeing 737s operated by the three airlines will gradually be replaced by the much more efficient aircraft of the A320neo family. The Dutch airline is equipping the A321neo with 227 seats in a single-class configuration. The first destinations included Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Prague, Rome, Stockholm, and Vienna. In an internal survey, the majority of KLM employees voted to name the A321neo fleet, which marked the beginning of an extensive transformation of the fleet, after butterflies. This new 1/200 scale model, registered PH-AXE, is named after the map butterfly. The butterfly's name is based on the pattern on the underside of its wings, which are covered with a network of lines reminiscent of a map.
