Back in the 1970s, Boeing set about developing a successor to its medium-haul bestseller, the three-engine 727. The result was the twin-engine 757, which promised better performance and greater efficiency. Between 1981 and 2004, no fewer than 1,050 of these aircraft were to leave the Boeing factories. A variant stretched by seven meters followed, especially for medium-haul routes with high demand, such as those served by the German vacation airline Condor. The result was the 757-300, which has an overall length of 54.4 meters and is approved for up to 295 passengers in single-class seating. The first customer, Condor, received 15 of these aircraft from 1999 and was the largest operator of this variant alongside Continental Airlines and Delta Air Lines. In addition to numerous 757-200s, Icelandair currently operates two 757-300s with seating for 223 passengers, one of which, TF-ISX, has been flying Iceland's national colors since 2018 to celebrate 100 years of independence.
