In 2007, SriLankan Airlines, the national airline of the former Ceylon, celebrated its 50th anniversary. For the occasion, the airline commissioned Herpa to produce a set containing three 1/500 scale models documenting important chapters in its history. With the DC-8-41, registered 4R-ACT, the set contains a model of one of the last airplanes still flying under the former name Air Ceylon. Already under the name Air Lanka, a Boeing 747-238B taken over from Qantas, registered 4R-ULF and named “King Vijaya” was operated. Flagship of the now SriLankan Airlines called fleet is the A340-300X whereas the original of this model, registered 4R-ADF is mainly used on routes to Europe.
